On July 18, 2025, the CERM Association president Guido Ceccolini fitted GPS trackers to ten Swiss-bred red kites, which were then released into the wild in the Aspromonte National Park. Thanks to the Milvus LIFE Project, the Park Authority is developing a reintroduction programme for the species based on the release of young individuals, both taken from nests in donor areas and bred in captivity. The CERM Association is collaborating with the Park Authority and the Calabrian Ornithological Station (StOrCal) on several ongoing activities. After preparing the GPS and VHF devices, the president of the CERM Association coordinated their fitting on the young birds of prey in the aviaries at the release centre in the southern part of the Aspromonte National Park. The red kites, taken from nests in the Canton of Fribourg, Switzerland, in spring 2025 at 4–5 weeks old and transferred to the Park, were released into the wild on July 19, 2025.
